In Longest Day And Darkest Night was born from a place of
extreme pain. It is dedicated to a family I was close to, who
had just received news of a cancer diagnosis...again. Upon
learning the news, any words of comfort I could come up with
seemed completely inadequate. How could I begin to say
anything to a family who is going through suffering on a level
that I can’t even begin to imagine? And so I prayed. After
crying out to God about this seeming injustice, He reminded
me that all of His ways are good, and for His glory. So, in
response to what seemed like the darkest possible of nights,
I wrote these words November 1, 2014:

TTBB Arrangement Demo

In longest day, and darkest night,
When hope is all but gone,
In deepest valley with no light,
And longing for the dawn,
Yet in this darkness I’ve been taught
Thy faithfulness to me
For in this valley I’ve been brought,
Nearer, my God, To Thee

A few days later, I wrote the second and third verses, and added
the music. My hope and prayer is that God will use this text
to comfort those that are hurting.
