Nothing Gold Can Stay
Text by Robert Frost (1874-1963), Public Domain
Autumn is my favorite season. I love everything about it, except for how short it lasts, and how quickly it is gone. So, when I found this text by Robert Frost, I knew immediately I wanted to set it for choir.
Nature’s first green is gold
Her hardest hue to hold
Her early leaf’s a flower
But only so an hour
Then leaf subsides to leaf
So Eden sank with grief
So dawn goes down to day
Nothing gold can stay
