Trappist-1: Percussion quartet No. 1

Trappist-1 is a star system approximately 29 light years from earth, with seven planets orbiting a super cool red dwarf. These seven planets orbit their star, Trappist-1a, closer than Mercury orbits the sun.

With such close orbits, the ratios of the planets’ orbital periods are made up of small, whole numbers, many of them 3:2. With such a musical solar system, it only seemed logical to create a piece inspired by it. The piece centers around the “Trappist chord”, which is the chord created by the ratios of the seven planets’ orbits, as well as the leitmotifs for the star and each of the seven planets.
